Hello, I'm David Johnson - a professional web developer working in the city of Lancaster, UK. That's me, the handsome devil on the right. I have been a web developer for close to four years now and felt it was about time I build a website of my own, in the hope to showcase my growing talent and help those wanting to learn more about the web.
I began my career as a web developer in November 2005 when I joined Exact Abacus Ltd, a mail order solutions company based in Chorley. Here I was able to develop my main skill in Microsoft .NET programming. The early stages of my time here were focussed mainly on programming in the object-oriented language C#. In late 2006 I was given the opportunity to develop my CSS skills as the company strived to achieve better standards in their websites and move away from table-based HTML. Producing clean and standardised XHTML markup is now one of my paramount aims when building a website.
I left Exact in May 2008 and have been firmly rooted with AccessPlanIT ever since. AccessPlanIT specialise in producing course booking software and learning management systems. The company is progressing well and I have been able to further develop my skills. I become more proficient in Javascript and SQL over the course of my time here and I'm continuing to pick up more and more from my colleagues. The products are geared more towards applications and were far more advanced than the mail order sites I was used to producing at Exact.
While AccessPlanIT is not in the business of producing bespoke websites for its customers, there was one opportunity for me to produce a website for AccessPlanIT's largest customer at the time - the Lancashire Workforce Development Partnership (LWDP). The aim was to produce a single point of access for all of the LWDP online services. This was the last website I had an involvement with producing in early 2009.
The LWDP website came at quite an expense and a result, the company didn't really make enough to justify branching out into this area of business. To get a company to build or design a website in this manner can be quite costly. I felt that this was an opportunity to give people and small businesses a chance to get a professionally made website with minimal expense. I aim to start out building sites only using HTML pages and hopefully moving towards more advanced sites using Microsoft .NET.
