Web Design

Below are a few examples of the websites I've been associated with. You can view any of the websites by clicking the image that accompanies the description.

The Lancashire Workforce Development Partnership (LWDP)

Lancashire Workforce Development Partnership

This is the website I developed with AccessPlanIT. The goal here was to provide the LWDP with one single point of access to all of their online services. This meant integrating the website with the LWDP's current online learning management system called LancashirePlan.

I was responsible for the design of the website. It was important to keep it closely related to the style of the current LancashirePlan system, as some pages directly display content from this very system. I decided to work with the blue that the LWDP logo is displayed with. It allowed me to produce an attractive menu bar and headers.

I was given 3 months to complete this bespoke site and followed through solely during design, coding an testing phases. It is perhaps the best demonstration of my capability as a .NET developer. I put to use some of the new techniques I had learned with AccessPlanIT.

I used Javascript much more freely as I had previously done, in the goal of making the site run alot more smoothly. I implemented call back methods as opposed to the post backs I had previously used. The web pages were written in XHTML and my preferred style of CSS based layout was used. I got to use some AJAX functions as well for the first time. Notably the accordion style menu on the right hand side of the home page and the search box in the top right which predicts text as it is entered.

Snow + Rock

Snow + Rock

The last website I was involved with at Exact Abacus was the development of the Snow + Rock website. It was a joint effort with a developer on my team, due to the workload and timescale. While I had no input as far as the design was concerned, we were responsible for the functionality working correctly.

It was also the first project to use CSS based layout HTML as opposed to the table based style previously used by the company. This is something I have stuck by ever since when developing and believe that a well-designed website should not be compromised by large HTML files as is normally the case with table based layout.
